Flagging something

When and how to flag a spot, user, or clip — and what happens after.

// WHEN TO FLAG

Flag content when something is wrong, unsafe, or fake. Examples:

  • A spot is knobbed, gated, or demolished and the map still says active.
  • A spot description is misleading — wrong surface, wrong skill level, wrong location.
  • A clip or comment is harassment, doxxing, or directed at a minor.
  • A marketplace listing is a scam, counterfeit, or hostile.
  • A shop is impersonating a real skate shop.

If you saw it and it's wrong, send it in. The system is designed to handle volume — false flags cost us nothing compared to leaving real problems unaddressed.

// HOW TO FLAG

Every page has a three-dot menu. Open it, pick a category, write a sentence about what's wrong. That's the whole flow. You don't need to be signed in to flag a spot or clip; you do need to be signed in to flag a user (so moderators can ask follow-up questions).

// WHAT HAPPENS AFTER

Submitted flags go into a moderation queue. A moderator reviews them. Most resolve within 24-48 hours; obvious abuse is faster.

If the flag is acted on:

  • A spot gets re-statused (lost, modified, removed).
  • A clip or comment gets removed.
  • A user gets a warning, temporary suspension, or — for repeated harm — a ban.

If the flag is declined, you'll get a short note explaining why. If you think the moderator got it wrong, you can appeal.

// DON'T USE FLAG FOR DISAGREEMENT

Flag is for things that violate the rules or are factually wrong. It is not the disagree button. If you don't like that someone called a tre-flip a 360 flip, that's a conversation for the comments, not the queue.

// EMERGENCIES

Flag is for SkateMaps-internal moderation. If you witness or experience something requiring law enforcement, contact local authorities first. We're not equipped to be a 911 surrogate.
