Is it really free

Yes. Why and how.

// YES

The whole app. The map, the clips, the sessions, DTS, the marketplace, DIY donations, the archive — all free. No premium tier. No paywall. No "free trial" that converts.

// WHY

A skate map paid for by skaters belongs to skaters. A skate map paid for by advertisers belongs to whoever bought the slot. We picked.

This isn't a marketing line. It's an architecture decision. There are no ad endpoints in the API. The data model doesn't have a sponsored-placement column. The map ranking is what skaters verified, not what someone paid to elevate.

// SO HOW DOES IT WORK

A few sources:

  • Donations. Skaters who want to support the platform can give. We accept. It does not affect anything you see on the map.
  • Optional contributor support. We pay a small editorial team for the archive and oral history work. That cost is real and we cover it with the donations and the founder's time. If it gets bigger, we'll show our work.
  • Founder runway. Right now, mostly this. We're not pretending otherwise.

If we ever take outside money, the terms are public, they don't compromise the rules above, and we say so on this page.

// THINGS WE WILL NEVER DO

  • Sell user data.
  • Run targeted ads.
  • Sell spot placement.
  • Sell verified-shop or verified-DIY badges as a sponsorship tier.
  • Lock features behind a subscription.
  • Add a paid premium account.

If any of those changes, this paragraph changes first. Bookmark this page.

// WANT TO HELP

You don't have to give money. The most useful thing you can do is submit good spots, verify the ones near you, write a clean spot description, and call out bad listings. The map gets better when the people on it care.
