Marketplace basics

Listing, buying, and how seller ratings work.

// WHAT'S IT FOR

The SkateMaps marketplace is for skaters trading with other skaters. Decks, trucks, wheels, bearings, hardware, shoes, jackets, vintage. Local-first — the listing surface biases toward your area.

We don't take fees. We don't take a cut. There's no shipping integration; if you're shipping, you arrange it yourself. Most listings are local pickup.

// LISTING SOMETHING

  • Pick a category. Photos. Honest condition (new, used-good, used-rough, broken-for-parts).
  • Set a price. Or set free if you're giving it away — give-aways are a real category and get their own filter.
  • Pick local pickup or willing-to-ship. If shipping, name the regions you'll ship to.
  • Hit list.

The listing lives until you mark it sold or pull it down.

// BUYING SOMETHING

Open a listing. Message the seller through the SkateMaps messaging surface. Agree on price, agree on meeting place or shipping address, exchange. Money happens off-platform — Venmo, Cash App, cash in hand. We're not an escrow service.

// SELLER RATINGS

When a transaction completes, both sides can rate each other. Ratings are immutable — you can't edit them later, you can't delete them after a disagreement. The rating is the rating.

This is deliberate. A mutable rating system rewards retaliation and lets bad sellers wash their history. Immutable ratings mean a single bad transaction is on your record forever, but so is the truth of how it actually went. Most skaters get this right; the few who don't sort themselves out.

// WHAT NOT TO LIST

  • Counterfeits. Listing a fake Indy as a real one is grounds for a ban.
  • Stolen gear. We will work with law enforcement when it comes up.
  • Anything that isn't skate-adjacent. The marketplace is decks, trucks, wheels, hardware, shoes, clothes, related media. Not your car. Not your spare guitar.

// DISPUTES

If a transaction goes wrong, message the other side first. If that fails, flag the listing and a moderator looks. We can ban sellers and disable listings; we can't get your money back. Caveat venditor, caveat emptor.
